One of several options we offer as a pack carry weekend, our Marysville Intro Into Pack Carry weekend will offer you a taste of what it’s like to carry your gear in your pack from one location to another…and in an incredibly picturesque location as well.
Starting our near-on 15km round adventure at the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort in Marysville, we’ll make our way through the various ski field paths heading north-west towards the highest point in the Yarra Ranges at 1490m.
Along the way, you’ll get incredible views of the various ridgelines of the Marysville/Lake Mountain area from Lookout Rock and Panorama Lookout which includes thousands of trees that never recovered from the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009.
From here, we leave the ski fields and head west along the Hut Trail for a short period time as we make our way to the Keppel Hut campsite.
A fantastic little hut located on the border of the Yarra Ranges National Park and Rubicon State Forest, it’s home to four bunk beds and a great little fireplace and is typically used for short stays during day trips.
The campsite also includes plenty of space for us to pitch our tents, as well as a great little picnic table ideal for a meal area.
At any one time, you’ll be required to carry your tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, food, water and clothing which will replicate what you would typically carry during a longer, more challenging pack carry hike.
To ensure we are giving you the best pack carry experience possible, our dinner and breakfast meals for the weekend will be provided by Campers Pantry. They are an Australian company that offers freeze-dried gourmet meals that use 100% real Australian meat and ingredients. Vegetarian options are also available.
Please indicate in the information/notes section of your order which breakfast and dinner option you would prefer.
You can choose one each from the following breakfast and dinner options:
Breakfast (subject to availability)
Dinner (subject to availability)
Lunch for the weekend will consist of mountain bread wraps with spinach, salami, hummus and Baby Bel cheese.
We deem this hike to be a Grade Three hike in accordance with the Australian Walking Track Grading System which refers to a track that “is recommended for people with some bushwalking experience”
