Located in the Baw Baw National Park, and part of the initial section of the Australian Alpine Walking Track, the Mushroom Rocks Intro Into Pack Carry is a weekend adventure complete with relaxing walks, exploring and nature immersion.
This weekend is also designed to give you an introduction into what it’s like to carry a full pack of gear during a hike. If you have a goal of a multi-day pack carry hike in the future, our aim with this weekend is to help get you ready for this whilst also having a relaxing weekend away.
Day One – Mushroom Rocks Trail – 5kms approximately
Beginning from the Mount Erica car park, we will make our way up the 2.4km trail to Mushroom Rocks (1240m), have some lunch and explore the area. You’ll find yourself walking through stunning bushland where you’ll have the opportunity to take your adventurous spirit to another level and wander through the many granite boulders that litter the area.
Once you’ve finished getting your initial taste of the area, we’ll make our way further up the trail as we climb almost 300ms in elevation to Mount Erica and camp at Talbot Peak for the night amongst the snow gums.
Day Two – Mushroom Rocks Trail from Talbot Peak – 5kms approximately
Our second day will be consist of following the same trail back the way we came to the Mount Erica car park.
At any one time, you’ll be required to carry your tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, food pack, water and clothing which will replicate what you would typically carry during a longer, more challenging pack carry hike.
Please note: in the event that you bring your own backpack, and choose to use our camping gear, you’ll need to ensure that your pack is big enough to carry a tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, food pack, drinking and cooking water, and your clothing.
To ensure we are giving you the best experience possible, our dinner and breakfast meals for the weekend will be provided by Campers Pantry. They are an Australian company that offers freeze-dried gourmet meals that use 100% real Australian meat and ingredients. Vegetarian options are also available.
Please indicate in the information/notes section of your order which breakfast and dinner option you would prefer.
You can choose one each from the following breakfast and dinner options:
Breakfast (subject to availability)
Dinner (subject to availability)
Lunch for day two will consist of mountain bread wraps with spinach, salami, hummus and Baby Bel cheese. You are invited to bring your lunch with you for day one.
We deem this hike to be a Grade Three hike in accordance with the Australian Walking Track Grading System which refers to a track that “is recommended for people with some bushwalking experience”.
